Two Supporters of Erdogan Sentenced to Jail Over Beating Protesters in Washington

Two Turkish-American supporters of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received prison sentence over their role in beating a group of protesters during the Turkish leader’s visit to Washington, D.C., last May.

A court judge sentenced Eyup Yildirim and Sinan Narin to 12 months and one day in jail in a case that strained relations between Turkey and the U.S.

Recently, U.S. prosecutors quietly dropped charges against some of President Erdogan’s security guards. The president previously dismissed the probe as a plot against Turkey.
