Turkey to Try to Annul Trump Move on Jerusalem at UN
Turkey will launch a new initiative at the United Nations to annul a decision by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday.
“We will work for the annulment of this unjust decision firstly at the U.N. Security Council, and if a veto comes from there, the General Assembly, Turkish president said, according to Reuters.
But such a move would bound to fail given the U.S. status with a permanent seat the Security Council with wielding veto powers.
On Wednesday, Turkey hosted an emergency summit of Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC). At the end of the summit, Muslim leaders signed a final communique recognizing “East Jerusalem as the occupied capital of an independent Palestinian State.”
The communique also called on the whole world to do as such.
