Missing Turkish Mother, Kid Found Dead in Evros River
After 36 hours of search efforts by Greek and Turkish officials, dead bodies of a mother and her one-year-old baby were recovered on the Turkish side of Evros River at Turkey-Greece border, adding two more deaths to a slow but rising number of slain Turkish asylum seekers attempting to reach Greece.
Hatice Akcabay and her little son Bekir were found on Friday. A day before the father Murat Akcabay made an emotional plea on Twitter, urging both the Turkish and Greek officials to not to halt their efforts.
He said after the boat capsized in the river, his wife and his three children went missing.
The Turkish officials retrieved the body of the mother and her son, while efforts to find others continue.
