Report: Turkish Military Convoy Comes Under Attack in Northern Syria

A Turkish military convoy came under attack as rocket-propelled grenades were fired at the armored vehicles in Idlib province of Syria, local media reported.

Nobody was injured in the attack as rockets fell short of hitting the convoy, according to a report the Hurriyet daily in Turkey.

Turkey had previously deployed forces, tanks and artillery in Idlib, which was designated as a de-escalation zone in a trilateral meeting between Turkey, Russia and Iran in September last year.

The Turkish forces established observation posts to monitor the reduction of hostilities in the province between warring sides, rebels and the government troops.

The Kurdish-dominated Syrian Defense Forces (SDF) periodically engage in exchanges of fires with the Turkish troops as tension between the Kurdish militia and Turkey runs high.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan repeatedly cites Afrin, which is under control of the Syrian Kurds, as the next military mission for Turkey to cleanse the town of “terrorist elements.”
