Turkey Court Releases Former Istanbul Police Chief, Keeps Governor in Jail
A Turkish court released former Istanbul Police Chief Huseyin Capkin, placed him under house arrest while former Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu‘s demand for release was rejected by the same court in a trial in which former governors and police chiefs face prosecution over alleged links to Gulen Movement.
On Tuesday, a prosecutor sought the release of former Istanbul governor and police chief. The court accepted to release Mr. Capkin but refused to free former Governor Mutlu.
Both face charges of alleged membership to Gulen Movement. They strongly deny any link to the organization.
At least 15 former province and district governors are being tried in the same trial.
