Turkey Remands 2,200 Undocumented Migrants in Border Crackdown
In a major crackdown on Monday and Tuesday, Turkish security forces remanded more than 2,200 migrants trying to illegally cross into the Turkish territory from Syria, state-run Anadolu news agency said.
Turkish military released a statement detailing on the simultaneous operations across Turkey’s borders. In southern Turkey, border patrol units and ground forces units captured 2,004 immigrants while attempting to cross the Turkish border from Syria.
In western Turkey, the Turkish security forces detained more than 100 undocumented immigrants who were trying to reach Greece through the Turkish border.
In total, Anadolu said security forces captured more than 2,200 as Turkey stepped up efforts to effectively control its borders.
