Turkey Releases 6 ISIS Suspects in Trial Over Airport Attack

Staff Writer with AP — Six defendants in a trial over an attack by the Islamic State militants on Istanbul’s main international airport in 2016 summer have been released pending trial.

Official Anadolu news agency said the six men, including three foreign nationals, were released Wednesday — the third day of court hearings — but remain on trial and were banned from leaving the country. The trial was adjourned until Jan. 18

On June 28, 2016, three suspected ISIS militants armed with automatic weapons stormed Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul and detonated their suicide vests, killing 46 people and injuring 163 others.

Thirty-two other people remain behind bars for alleged links to ISIS. Four suspects haven’t been found yet.

Turkey has suffered a string of attacks blamed on ISIS militants that have killed more than 300 people since 2015.
