Turkish-German journalist Deniz Yucel said he will not wear a single prison uniform, a practice proposed by the Turkish government by a recent decree for prisoners arrested in the aftermath of the coup.
It’s almost been a year since journalist Yucel has been in prison. His imprisonment is a source of enduring friction between Turkey and Germany.
Last week, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu expressed his displeasure for his lengthy pretrial detention and said the Turkish government urged the judiciary to expedite his trial process. He, however, said the charges and accusations against Mr. Yucel are serious.
The journalist challenged the foreign minister. He disputed his account and said if he got used to living with being kept hostage, the minister would also get used to that situation.
